YouTube star Alyssa Anne Dayvault has been jailed for 40 years after throwing her two newborns in the trash.
The 32-year-old beauty blogger gave birth to a baby girl in 2017, followed by a baby boy in 2018. She tossed both babies in the trash moments after giving birth.
Dayvault, 32, skipped her trial in October and a jury found her guilty of two counts of child abuse homicide despite her absence.
She was sentenced on Thursday, October 5 to spend four decades in prison.
Judge Steven John sealed his sentence until it was located and brought to Horry County Court.
The jury found her guilty of throwing the two babies in the trash a few moments after they were born.
After showing little emotion upon hearing her verdict, she tearfully asked the judge to reconsider her sentence.
“I just want to apologize,” she said.
The beauty blogger, who has two other daughters, also apologized to them.
“I hope one day they will forgive me for what I did.”
The star also apologized to her parents and her ex-boyfriend, Chris Matechen, who fathered the children.
“I especially want to apologize to the Matechen. I never intended to do anything. I never hurt anyone. I made a horrible mistake in my actions, how I handled it. I would never do anything to harm anyone, especially a child, “Dayvault said sobbing, according to WKRC.
Dayvault’s defense attorney argued that she suffered from mental health issues that may have contributed to her absence from the trial.
But Deputy Chief Justice and Attorney Scott Hixson said his sentence – which has no parole – was appropriate.
“When it comes to mental health issues, Your Honor, in South Carolina you are crazy or not. Since it is not, it bears the full weight of the law and we believe your sentence of honor is appropriate in this case, ”Hixson said.
